MEET THE TEAM
The Schools Under 2°C organization at Tesla STEM High School is comprised of over 100 students with a diverse set of skills. They work together to ensure that their school is reducing greenhouse gas emissions to the standards stated in the Paris Climate Accord.

Schools Under 2C is led by students at Tesla STEM High School, who work closely with their teacher advisor, Dr.Shelton, to make the organization possible. Learn more about the leadership team below!
Annie Denton is a senior at Tesla STEM High School. An avid snail enthusiast, Annie has been passionate about animals and the environment for as long as she can remember. In high school, she was deeply influenced by environmental science classes, volunteer involvement, and an internship with Waste Management. In leading Schools Under 2C, she hopes to educate fellow students with the goal of encouraging more sustainable practices on the local, state and international levels.
Siddharth Shende is a senior at Tesla STEM High School. This is his third year working with Schools Under 2C. Outside of this organization, he is avidly involved in Model United Nations, FBLA, and Knowledge Bowl. As he is very involved in service projects and caring for the community – he is part of the Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee to do his part in serving the local community. For fun, he loves to watch movies and listen to music, and explore Netflix’s catalog. Interested in the application of his leadership and team-working skills, Siddharth Shende is super excited to be co-leading Schools Under 2C this year!
Ayan Gupta, a senior at Tesla STEM High School, has been working with Schools Under 2C since 2016. He often gains his most energy from being outside. Aside from 2C, Ayan is very involved in expanding access to STEM Education by offering affordable solutions for teachers and parents. He has organized events for 100s of students and organized workshops for creative educators. Ayan looks forward to utilizing his learnings organizing events to further environmental activism and encourage more sustainable practices.
Mathias Foster is a Senior at Tesla STEM High School. As an avid hiker, he has gained an appreciation for nature at an early age and is determined to apply his knowledge from AP Environmental Science to help preserve the Earth. Through his passion for filmmaking, he hopes to raise awareness about climate change and inspire others to take initiative.
Schools Under 2C would not have been possible without Mr. Town who provided enormous support and guidance to our team. He passes down all his experience, and we couldn't ask for a better mentor!
Mike Town has taught science and engineering courses for over 30 years in Redmond, Washington. Currently, he taught AP Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Design and the University of Washington Global Warming courses at Tesla STEM High School. In 2010-2011, he served as an Einstein Fellow working on STEM education policy issues for the National Science Board. For the past 4 years, he has been a member of the Teacher Advisory Council for the National Academies of Science. He has served on the Steering Committee on National Research Council of the National Academies of Science workshop on Climate Change Education in Formal Settings, and National Academies report on STEM Integration in K-12 Education reports. He has also chaired NAS workshops on STEM Learning Is Everywhere: Engaging Schools and Empowering Teachers to Integrate Formal, Informal, and After-School Education to Enhance Teaching and Learning in Grades K-8 and the Exploring Opportunities for STEM Teacher Leadership. Mike has been awarded the NEA Foundation Green Prize and the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators.
